Nicola Coughlan appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Jan. 31 and admitted to some pretty surprising Bridgerton facts, including “stabbing” her costar Claudia Jessie. “It was my first day on set, and it’s quite terrifying, getting a big Shondaland Netflix job, and you think, ‘I just don’t wanna screw this up.’ They said to me, ‘You’re very tiny, let’s put you in heels’ and I thought ‘Yep, I’ll do anything you want me to do,'” she told Clarkson.
“It became evident pretty quickly that with the corset and the heels, my balance was not so amazing. I was walking along, and I fell three times, and the third time, I was holding a parasol – which, in the wrong hands is a deadly weapon – and I fell forward and stabbed Claudia Jessie (who plays Eloise) in the hand, and she just started bleeding,” she added. We were relieved to know that her and Jessie are very much “still friends” and, having watched the friendship between Eloise and Penelope blossom on the show, we can hardly say we’re surprised!
In a later appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Coughlan also confirmed that her and Jessie frequently text, with Coughlan often sending her “Peneloise” memes (as the fans call them) because she doesn’t use social media. Now that is true friendship.
